Taras Shevchenko was a Ukrainian poet, prose writer, thinker, and painter. He is a national hero and symbol of Ukraine. Shevchenko's works have been translated into more than 100 languages. Monuments to him have been erected in 44 countries on 4 continents: from Canberra to Washington, from Buenos Aires to Beijing.
Despite the fact that the poet himself did not write songs, many of his works were set to music. And this process has not stopped over time: composers, rock musicians, and rap artists continue to be inspired by the great poet's work. Almost 200 years later his legacy lives on.
